Eco-Development of Heritage Sites in Mewat
Proposed project on greening the Heritage properties in collaboration with INTECH. Eco beautification of old monuments in the Mewat region. The institute shall earmark certain heritage properties for preservation to attract a large number of tourists, initiate eco tourism to involve the community to sustain the process of environment conservation. The project will include listing of monuments and old buildings, both public and private properties, identification of those which require repair and renovation and preparing specific proposals for it. For this different sources of information including gazetteers, history books and individual scholars will be tapped. The area of this project will comprise mostly of the Gurgaon division including the Haryana division of Mewat. The area in the vicinity of the buildings to be taken up under the project will also be improved from the point of view of ecology and landscaping. Assistance of local bodies, panchayats and local administration will be sought where ever necessary. The ultimate objective of the project is to renovate old buildings of historical value which are in a state of neglect and anonymity. There are a number of them around Gurgaon which happens to be a part of National Capital Region and is very close to, almost an extension of Delhi and near the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The area is also very important and interesting from the historical point of view and if these structures are repaired, maintained well and the area around them beautified with proper approach roads and some landscaping, they could be of great tourist interest for the residents of Delhi and the visitors to the National Capital Region. Infact, package tours of various kinds, including religious, cultural and purely historical, can be arranged for their benefit. Even otherwise it can be a worthwhile project to preserve the heritage of these places.
