OBJECTIVES
Social policy; concept and scope; distinction with economic policy, role of ideology and values in social policy; India constitution, Parliament, judicial pronouncements and social policy, relationship between social policy and social development; models of social policy process of social policy formulation.

Welfare state; rise and retreat, role of market evolution of social policy in India: Review of major social and welfare policies and Programs (education., Health, shelter, social security, environment employment, child and women welfare, welfare of the weaker sections, elderly and people with disability).

Poverty: Evolution in concepts; types and approaches to the study poverty; policies and Programs of poverty alleviation and eradication

Planning; economic and social planning; planning as an instrument social policy;social planning machinery in India and its implementation at various levels; a broad view of the period of planned development India (with emphasis on the areas of health, family welfare, education social welfare and antipoverty Programs); limits to planning;Peoples participation in social planning
